Welcome & Announcements

Postlude:  “Every Time I Feel the Spirit”  African-American Spiritual; Arr.: Kurt Kaiser

Call to Worship:

One: Life is hard. So we need to keep anchored in the joy of Christ.

People: We need to let Christ take us by the hand and hop and skip with Christ through whatever troubles come our way.

One: The tomb is empty. Jesus is risen. He’s not in the to but here among us!

People: Let’s celebrate in this worship, and let’s keep celebrating every day and every night.

All:  For Christ is risen! Christ is risen, indeed!

♫Hymn:   VU 412  “This is the Day”

A Time for All Ages

♫+Song:    “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy”

Prayer of Confession

Assurance of God’s Pardon

One: Sorry, your sins are too severe to merit God’s forgiveness.  You’re out of luck!

People: Who are you to talk?  What about your sins?

One:   Maybe there’s forgiveness after all.

People: There’s no maybe about it!  In Jesus Christ, we’re all forgiven, even you!

One: Thank God for a congregation that knows the Gospel!

People: Someone has to!

All:     Stories of God’s reckless loving nourish our souls, inspiring us to loving, too.  God is great, author of beauty, joy, hope, and new life abundant.  For all women.  And for men, too.  AMEN

♫ÓHymn:  “His Eye is On the Sparrow”

1 Why should I feel discouraged,
why should the shadows come,
why should my heart be lonely
and long for heav'n and home,
when Jesus is my portion?
My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free
for His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.

2 "Let not your heart be troubled,"
His tender word I hear,
and resting on His goodness,
I lose my doubt and fear;
tho' by the path He leadeth,
but one step I may see:
His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free
for His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.

Offering Prayer:

Gracious God, everything we have is an expression of your presence in our lives. We have no good apart from You, O God. We acknowledge the many blessings that You have donated to us – our faith, our hope, this community of love and laughter. We give these tokens of our hands and hearts today to share your goodness and affirm that life with You is “O, so sweet.” Amen.

♫ÓOpening Hymn of Joy (Easter Carol) (tune VU 59)

Joy to the world the Lord’s alive

awake, rejoice and sing!

It’s just as He had said,

He’s risen from the dead.

Salvation now He brings.

Salvation now He brings.

Salvation, salvation now He brings.

Joy to the world, the empty tomb
proclaims a victory

of light compelling,

a great dispelling

of darkness in the world,

of darkness in the world,

of darkness, of darkness in the world.

Joy to the world our savior reigns.

Let heaven and earth proclaim

the glories of His righteousness,

and wonders of His love,

and wonders of His love,

and wonders, wonders of His love.
