Royal Canadian College of Organists “Organ Crawl”
The Vancouver Centre of the Royal Canadian College of Organist will be having an “Organ Crawl” on Saturday, February 22, 2020. Organist will not actually be crawling over the pipe organs, but will be progressing between various churches, rather in the same manner as a progressive dinner.
RCCO members will begin at Knox United Church at 10:00am, hear a little about the pipe organ, then have time to play the organ. For non-RCCO members, this is an opportunity to learn a bit about pipe organs, and hear organists play the organs at each venue.
This event is free for members of RCCO Vancouver Centre.
For non-members there is a $10 fee for the day, or $5 per church.
The schedule is:
10:00-11:00am -- Knox United Church (5600 Balaclava St.)
11:30am-12:30pm -- St. John's Shaughnessy Anglican Church (1490 Nanton Ave. at Granville)
12:30-2:00pm -- Lunch break
2:00-3:00pm -- Central Presbyterian Church (1155 Thurlow St. Free parking available under church.)
The organ of Knox United Church was built by Casavant Brothers, Ltd., of St. Hyacinthe Quebec in 1950 as Opus 2037 with 10 stops.
Andrew Chapman of Vancouver installed seven additional Casavant ranks in 1956. The organ was cleaned and enlarged in 1989 by organ builder Adrian Koppejan of Chilliwack.
