Don’t go NUTS with stress =
Threat to ego,
Sense of control that is lost or low.
One of the best ways to reduce stress is to be willing to adapt to the situation at hand.
Remember that the stress response exists to ensure our survival. Put simply, it means ‘to adapt’. In the history of mankind, it is those individuals who have been able or willing to adapt to current stressful situations who have survived.
The rapid global spread of COVID-19 has quickly eclipsed other recent epidemics in both size and scope. In addition to the deadly human toll and the disruption to millions of people’s lives, the economic damage is already significant and far-reaching.
We have had to accept that we must confine ourselves, and our family members, to our homes in order to contain or at least slow the spread of the virus within the population; and for now are embracing social distancing and intensified sanitation in all aspects of societal activity.
Nothing’s the way it used to be and we already sense that the lasting repercussions will likely disproportionately affect many individuals and communities.
Exceptional circumstances, such as those of COVID-19, require a blend of courage, clarity, and humility. As you implement new strategies to adapt to the situation, understand that they may not work on the first go. So, you’ll need to adapt and continue to change your way of doing things to find the best way that works for you. Be patient with yourself and as Dr Bonnie Henry often says Be Kind.
