Well it is not everyday that you see a dog sitting comfortably in the pews or a cat basking in the streams of sunlight of the stain glass windows, but that is exactly what happened last Sunday. Once a year, Knox United Church hosts a special event to honor and bless the animals in our lives.

This year, the “Blessing of the Animals” service was lead by lay clergy, and the youth. Congregants spoke of how much their pets have touched their lives and the communities around them;  and all were invited to participate in storytelling and song.

No snakes this year, but everything from fur to feathers to scales were brought forth one-by-one and blessed.  A prayer was said for those cherished pets that have passed on and many of their photos were posted in the narthex, in rememberance.  Non pet owners participated by bringing a favourite stuffed animal.  All and all, a very special celebration of love with oh so many smiles!
