A relatively straightforward story of Jesus and his mother at a wedding in Cana; and a richly layered canvas loaded with nuances and meaning that has long been a favorite of artists. The featured art is from an unknown artist.

Text: John 2:1-11
Sermon Title: Be Wasteful!
Jesus is invited to a wedding in Cana and turned the water into wine, way too much wine. This is a sign of what Jesus was all about, that the Kingdom of God is about abundance, not scarcity – there is always plenty - always abundant – even to a point of wastefulness. Jesus does not have an economics of scarcity, but an economics of abundance. To be a disciple of Jesus is to display hospitability as an act of, doing above and beyond what is expected or even appropriate, and exercise of excess – even to the point of wastefulness.
