Series: Bad Habits of Jesus

February 10, 2019 (Fifth Sunday of Epiphany)

Text: Matthew 4:18-23 (calling of first disciples)

Sermon Title: Jesus Befriended the Bad and the Ugly

Synopsis:

Jesus’ called Galilean fishermen as his disciples. It was said that nothing good would come out of Galilee – “Galilee of Gentiles”.

Like calling fishermen from Galilee, Jesus was in habit of befriending and hanging out with the bad and the ugly people according to those who were high up in religious and political institutions.

They persecuted Jesus for this bad habit. But he befriended the bad and the ugly – and changed them. And they in turn took the mantle of his leadership in carrying out God’s mission on earth.
