The Palestinian village of Khan Al Ahmar  in a part of the Occupied Territories near Jerusalem is impeding the expansion of one of the larger settler communities - Ma'ale Adumim.  So, the Israeli authorities are threatening to demolish the village school and houses and forcibly transfer the population.

Although the news from Khan Al Ahmar is dire,  the good news for us as Canadians is that for the first time in a long while Prime Minister Trudeau expressed concern for Khan Al Ahmar in Question Period last Wednesday and stated Canada was actively discussing this with Israeli officials in order to protect Khan Al Ahmar.

The UCC is asking people write the Prime Minister expressing their support for his statement and actions to protect Khan Al Ahmar and urge continued urgent efforts as the situation on the ground is still dire.

The full background is available on the United Church of Canada website listed below,  as well as info on where to email your letters.  A sample letter from a Knox congregant is attached that you are welcome to use as a template.
