A year ago the Worship team agreed that it was time to purchase a set of New Revised Standard Version or NRSV Bibles for the pews. Our Altar Bible and the scripture readings we hear on Sundays are mostly NRSV and we wanted to have the same edition available in the pews for the congregation. Colleen C. and Mary G. agreed to undertake this project.
We approached the congregation hoping to find a few folks who would like to support the project by sponsoring the purchase of a Bible. We were amazed by the enthusiastic and generous support! THANK YOU!!
We were ready to place our order about 6 months ago but the Canadian Bible Society was sold out! This is good news because it means that Bibles are still a very marketable product however, for Knox it meant a delay of several months as we had to wait for the next printing. We received the shipment in late February. Dedication book plates designed by Colleen C. were then attached. This was a time of a lot of wonderful memories of many special people.
On Palm Sunday we dedicated 83 Bibles and 4 beautiful large print Bibles. Congregants held the Bibles in their hands as Rev. Liz offered a prayer of dedication. After Easter we will be moving a small number of the Bibles into the chapel. The large print copies will be located in the narthex so that individuals may collect one upon arrival. Three of the new Bibles, along with a selection of our older Bibles will be transferred to the Exploring Faith team.
All are encouraged to use the pew Bibles to follow along with the scripture readers each Sunday. Now that all the Bibles will be the same edition, we will endeavor to print the page numbers in the bulletin or to ask the scripture reader to announce them.
