Advent is the beginning of the church year observed in many Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for both the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas and the return of Jesus at the Second Coming. The term, Advent, is a version of the Latin word meaning "coming". Preparation is the theme of this season. As we prepare for the coming of Christ in our lives, we become a messenger to announce the coming of the Lord to the world.
Advent 1 (December 1)
Text: Isaiah 2:1-5
Sermon Title: Walking in the Hope of the Lord
Synopsis: The Prophet Isaiah proclaims God’s promise of the future kingdom to the people of Israel who are in exile that, “they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”
So, he urges, “O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!” This is, also, our call for this Advent season.
We prepare for the coming King in our lives this season by:
and Embodying (Virus)
the Hope of the Lord to the world.
